The region The hospital is located in a 17,000 inhabitants town, beautifully located in a coastal area over the fjords, surrounded by snow capped-mountains, Iceland based.
For the sport and outdoor enthusiast the region offers many attractions including the northernmost golf course in the world, the ski capital of Iceland, the Northern lights, mountain climbing and glacier exploration, premier fishing, sailing, hiking, horseback riding and bird watching.
It also has an international airport, a harbor for cruise-ships and easily connected to the capital Reykjavik by road. There are a lot of major sight-seeing attractions around the area.
The Surgery Department The department provides both emergency and elective service all year round. It provides service in most branches of orthopedics.
Scope of work To provide service in orthopedic surgery on the full time job basis.
Working hours are 07:45 - 16:00 every week day. In general, 40 hours per week plus on calls as required.
Benefits Salary is according to wage agreement between the Icelandic Medical Association and the Treasury.
Travel expenses will be paid and assistance provided with accommodation and settlement.
There are also a few other extras like subsidised housing.
Monthly salary The doctor's monthly renumeration: basic salary + number of on-calls. Basic salary is 612,699 IKR which can go up depending upon the experience and subspeciality. On call is paid 2595 IKR per hour.
Weekend on call lasts for 64 hours and working day on call takes 16 hours.
Requirements Applicants are required to hold a specialist qualification that is recognized and accepted in Iceland. The ability to understand, speak and write English is necessary.
The department seeks an individual with excellent skills in the aspects of modern surgery.
The applicant must have an experience as a consultant for at least 5 years, good communication skills and willingness to co-operate.
